INDUSTRY BULLETINS FROM THE VSA

VSA BULLETIN
February 11, 2008
Issue #4 - 2008

Deputy Registrar Appointed

Ian Christman, a lawyer, has been appointed Deputy Registrar of the Motor Vehicle Sales Authority of British Columbia (VSA), effective February 1, 2008.

The new full-time position of Deputy Registrar is central to a VSA restructuring. In addition to assisting the President and Registrar in the performance of his duties, and sharing the load in hearings on disciplinary and investigative matters, he will be the department head responsible for all licensing, regulatory and compliance issues.

As an associate in the law firm of Macaulay McColl, Ian has advised the Authority since it was founded in 2004. He has a background in the automotive industry and extensive experience in civil litigation and regulatory issues.

Central to VSA restructuring is to place both Licensing and Regulatory Services under one director and to place the rapidly growing spheres of Professional Development (Learning Division) and Consumer Services under another.

"We are very pleased that Ian has agreed to join our team, " said Ken Smith, the President and Registrar. "He not only knows us as a result of his years in private practice, frequently advising us on regulatory and compliance matters, he knows our industry."

Meet Ian Christman

Ian Christman is a lawyer with an extensive background in administrative and regulatory law, complex commercial litigation and class actions, constitutional law, products liability, employment law and legal research. In addition to degrees in political science (Simon Fraser University), law (University of Alberta) and a diploma in criminology (Douglas College), he served for many years as a team leader and volunteer with the Vancouver Police Department's Citizen Crime Watch Program.

Ian brings to the VSA executive team an extensive background in the automotive industry, working in the Canadian Tire organization for 18 years. From 1994 until 2000, he was Automotive Inventory Manager for Pacific (Canadian Tire) Associate Stores Ltd. (Vancouver and Fraser Valley), responsible for a multi-million dollar inventory in 23 stores and a distribution centre.
